Create a conceptual coffee table book that represents an ocean pollution activist known as Marina DeBris while including interior layout for print and e-book adaptation.
A book cover and layout design for the artwork of Marina DeBris was the objective of this case study. Both the cover and layout were to evoke and reflect the artist’s work. The book cover and layout needed to work together to be adaptable to an e-book platform, which would serve as an interactive display of the book’s contents. The challenge was to design a book based on Marina DeBris art and her goals. It was important that the book design wasn’t louder than her art. Finding the right colours and type that complimented her work.
I wanted to represent the severity of ocean pollution while having a creative approach that represents the artist, Marina DeBris. The cover design system uses a lenticular print method with a picture of garbage and ocean to create an animated illusion. It reflects the constant cycle of waste and ocean integrating together. The big bold type represents big chunks of waste invading our space in this world. The colours are dark blues and greys to create a dramatic affect.
